Back From CHA

So many pictures to show...the trip was good, fun, enlightening...biggest trend, aside from Vintage, which we have been all over for awhile...is jewelry and charms...so you will be seeing some new items along those lines...all the usual suspects were great...7 Gypsies, Prima, Webster's Pages, Graphic 45. litle Yellow Bicycle, Making memories, Cosmo Cricket, all the Tim Holtz products...that guy is everywhere!!!...and I am pretty sure we are all pretty glad that he is...new items to watch for...a new glitter & coloring style which I will show you all when it arrives...new-to-us, the stamps from The Queen's Ink, PDQ papers from Bisous, pre-embossed papers from Core'dinations, new japanese designs form Hanko, magnets and buttons for the i-top from Imaginesce, wood stamps from a Swedish company called Magnolia (ggogle them!!)
Penny Black's newest stamps (with her gorgeous boards.)...some of the new Tattered Angels items have already arrived...anyway, here are few photos from the trip.

This first one shows all the dies from the Tim Holtz release for Ellison, except for the edge dies...and here is the cover of his new book...which has all sorts of projecfts with very detailed instructions...

These images and cards are from the Queen's Ink line...due in shortly.

Here is a photo of this week's prize...it is a kit (in very nice creams & browns) to make a 10 x 20 inch decor project, with an additional 6x6 canvas to attach to the front for a 3-d effect, plus a 2-pack of the ranger white pen. And the question for this week is: Let's talk about book binding...have you ever done it, especially in mini form??? Making mini books is such a delight...one of my all time favorite things to do, (besides soldering, Zentangles, shopping!!, and maybe a few others)
What is your favorite binding system, (Wow, I almost said "bonding system...that is a discussion for a whole 'nother day!) e.g. there are the following out there, Zutter Bind-it-all, 7 gypsies bindery punch, coil puncher machine, book rings, ribbon ties, stapling, piano hinge, hand-sewn, ...or which do you have the most experience with...and any you would like to have the oportunity to try (no promises here.) Thanks in advance for playing!

  1. Well, I really love my Bind It All for binding, but I have also used rings, ribbons, twines, the cropodile is great to punch holes for rings and ribbons. have all the stuff to try doing a hand sewn binding, yet to get one made!!! LOL!

  2. I have never tried my hand at book-binding! Maybe I should try the Bind it All...lately I have been doing my Art Journal pages singly, so I don't have to carry around my giant thick journal which has gotten too heavy. Also, I would be interested in maybe learning how to do the Coptic stitch, or another type of hand-stitch, using the Fabriano watercolor paper, to make my own handbound journal....Kate, .....maybe you could have a class???

  3. I've made several mini books for baby gifts that I simply put together by punching small holes along the binding and tying embroidery floss or different fibers in a knot to get a "fringe" effect. I've also just used an office binder with those coil bindings. I'd love to try and do one of those bird's foot bindings but haven't got around to it yet. They look kinda tricky though. :)Erin

  4. I used Tobey's Bind-it-all and loved it, but I usually use book rings, ribbon, or my latest favorite, hand sewn pages bound into a discarded library book (also hand sewn).

  5. I loooove making mini-books! They are probably my favorite thing to do! I tend to gravitate towards book rings as I am constantly adding and changing and taking things out. I love the versatility of them. I also have a Zutter bind-It-all. I have done hand-stitched, piano hinge, ribbon, twine...I have tried it all. I would love to get more practice with hand-sitching!

  6. I love making books! I have a bind-it-all and I LOVE it! I even made books for my husband to put car info in, invoices for customers, etc....
I haven't done any hand book binding. I want to try my hand at that. The bind it all just is sooooo easy!

  7. Thanks for the CHA preview. I can't wait to see some of the new goodies...especially looking forward to seeing Tim's new dies.

The books I've made have been bound with ribbon or rings. I haven't invested in a tool yet, but the Bind It All looks very interesting.
    Thanks for sharing!

  8. I have the bind it all, but have not used it a lot. the 7 gypsies bindery punch appeals to me because it looks quick and easy (and I like that it can punch through such heavy materials). I would love to see inhouse demos of more binding tools - it always helps when I can see things upclose and personal and can try it out (llb)

  9. In the past I have used rings which I find quick, easy & cheap. Now I am getting more into my Bind-It-All. I took an on line course for the BIA and found it very helpful. Since then I've made several small books for gifts and swaps. The BIA is pretty versatile and now with its "cover alls" you can make a really decent looking book. Donna S.

  10. I love ribbons...they make a book just 'giggle'. Know it sounds crazy, but ribbons are just fun for binding :)

  11. I've never tried binding or mini books...maybe I should. Seems like everyone loves them. I think I've shyed away from it because they seem so involved. Would love to try it though.

  12. I like rings because they give me the flexibility to tie as many ribbons on as possible...and I am a ribbon addict. I do have the bind it all and have played with it a few times, but just can't seem to get the hang of it...gotta keep trying !!!

  13. I LOVE binding my own books. My favorite binding (because it's the easiest!) is a 3- or 5-hole pamphlet stitch, leaving the ends of the waxed linen thread long enough to bead them. I've learned quite a few fun and cool-looking hand binding stitches but when I'm in a hurry, or the book is small, I rely on the pamphlet stitch.

  14. I took a book making class in college - we experimented with a lot of types but didn't have any of the cool tools that are available today. When in a pinch - I love using rings loaded with ribbons. Stitching takes time but is great to embellish too.
