This full set of Collage Press Joyride papers is this week's free prize, to be given to an entry chosen randomly from everyone who leaves a comment this week. I love to do wreaths so I am delighted with all the suggestions. Thanks, everyone.
Well, Christmas has come and gone for our family...the two oldest boys could only overlap their vacations last weekend, so that's when we did it...family came, we ate, opened presents, played Scrabble tournaments, and had a lot of hugs (Unless we lost the scrabble game, then we just stormed off in a huff...family is the BEST!!) We will have a lovely meal on the 25th and I will spend the day reading...and perhaps making a few thank you cards...
Lots of exciting news as companies start to tell us store-owners what they will be releasing at the big CHA show in January...Tim Holtz has shown his twelve new colors of Distress ink, as well as mentioned that he will be coming out with a new Sizzix machine, and a whole line of dies that will complemente his style of stamping art. He will also have lots of new Ideology elements, too. Always fun to see what that guy does. I'll post more as I hear about it.
So, for this week's question: Do you use your computer at all in your art? If so, how did you learn to do it?
I scan photos and other pics and save them to my documents, I may print out some words I want to use...and I can probably use images from CDs that I have purchased to print out...and aside from the newsletter, I can't do too much else...would love to be able to edit photos, I think my computer has the ability, ...just do not know how...where do you all stand on this??

  1. I only use my computer for photos. I spend enough time on it for everything else, that when it comes to my art, I want to get my fingers inky. I took a digital photography class to learn how to edit, re-size and manipulate my photos. I'd love to get photoshop and really be able to do the cool stuff.

  2. I would love to learn to use Photoshop to edit my photo's but the software is so expensive and I fear I won't learn how to use it. (like my cricut expression). I currently use Picassa which is a free download from google. You can use it to organize photos and do minor edits. Picassa is simple to use and you can get up and running quickly. I have recently begun purchasing digital stamps and have some I love but I have trouble resizing them. That is my limitation not the digital stamps. I keep promising myself that I will master photoshop in my lifetime. Maybe my favorite local stamp store could get a deal on photoshop and offer classes locally, say in Topsfield for instance...Kate? are you there Kate???

  3. I would love to use my computer for more than journaling bits and printing photos. 2010 is my year to learn photo editing and maybe work on some hybrid scrapbooking!

  4. I mostly use it to play with my photos. And by "play" I mean I am limited to what I can do in iPhoto or by using free sites like Picnik and Photobucket. I would loooove to get and learn to use Photoshop. That is about all I would use it for, though. I love to journal by hand, and digital or hybrid scrapbooking doesn't really interest me. I like to get my hands dirty!!! :-)

  5. I also use computer for photos, I do like to make pics sepia tone! But, I also use the computer to search for words/sayings and to print out using word art...

Bottom line, I like to be at a table playing when I do my crafting, not at a computer screen! Jenny B

  6. I just use it to find photos and clipart. But it works for me! :)

  7. I love Photoshop! I use Lightroom, also. I love turning photos black and white with PS. LR has 10 different settings for converting to B/W with "antiqued" or "vintage" being my favorites. I like getting rid of all those pimples on teens and wrinkles on me with a click of a button :) I've done some digital scrapbooking. I prefer "hands on"! The Masco Varsity Basketball team loved their memory book last year especially the PS photo, I made of each individual. I used the jazz filter. Photoshop is worth the money to get a smile and a thank you from 14 young men, 16-18 years old!

  8. I use my computer tons from finding free images to working with my photo's. I love the program Picasa it lets you do so many things with your photo. It's a free program that allows you to upload all your photos that way you will never lose them.

  9. I love to use my computer along with paper, glue and almost anything else in my projects. I've learned a lot over the years through much trial and error. I've taken a few online classes that have been really helpful. I don't think I'll ever become a total digi scrapper, I love all the "craft stuff" too much but it is nice to be able to have more options available.

  10. I have vague notions of learning to do some more stuff on the computer...but I sort of think a lot of the digital art I see out there has a "too polished" look to suit my style -- I like it hands on and messy, layered, and textured. But I do use my scanner to upload photos of my art which I email to friends & family and post on facebook. Something else I have vague notions of, maybe all this arty networking will eventually lead to me trying to sell my stuff.

  11. I've made some digital albums and a set of playing cards through a digital scrapbooking site. I also print my own photos and sometimes my journaling. I mostly use my computer to find inspiration online!

I don't really love digital scrapbooking. It's fine for quick gifts, but I miss the tactile nature of scrapbooking with paper, fibers, buttons, and other goodies.

  12. I'd love to learn to use Photoshop to it's full advantage. I will probably need to take a course. At the moment the program is just a source of frustration. I'd love to better organize my photos. I've taken two on-line paper arts courses which I enjoyed. I like the pace and the freedom of choosing my own papers, colors etc. (Don't worry Kate, I've enjoyed the classes at AE too.)

  13. Digital scrapbooking, and fixing photo mistakes are two of my favorite things to do with the computer. Both of these I learned from my children..they are tekkies.
Art inspiration also comes from the computer.

  14. I mostly use my computer to edit photos. I too would love to learn photoshop, I was thinking of taking a course this spring to learn about it. Other than that it has been trial and error along with what my kids have shown me.

  15. I love using all my supplies and have not used the computer for scrapbooking. I do have my photos stored on the computer and occasionally used the editor that came with my printer. But I would love to learn Photoshop. I'm thinking of taking a course...just need to find one.

  16. I like to use my computer for adding some journaling to tags and photos but always keeping it simple. I have been able to use and modify photos in a paint program and edit them to make them more professional but most of these programs are so complicated and time consuming that I choose to keep it simple.

I think I need one of those books for Dummies
to get me thru some of these programs...
