My eyes are still a little misty from reading all those Holiday memories... thank you to all of you who shared.
I want to let you all know that we are going to have an event to support the women in Uganda, many of whom are HIV positive, who are the beaders for the "Bead for Life" program. In the photo, you can see a necklace and some bracelets, made from paper beads. The women have started this business as a means to sustain themselves and their children, and the whole village. Stories about them can be seen on the website http://www.beadforlife.org/, from which I have taken this quote: " Ugandan women turn colorful recycled paper into beautiful beads, and people who care open their hearts, homes and communities to buy and sell the beads. The beads thus become income, food, medicine, school fees and hope. It is a small miracle that enriches us all."
We will be having a trunk show of these beads and jewelry pieces, here at the store. I tried to get it in time for holiday gifting, but I guess they were pretty busy. (I will do better next year!) Our trunk show will arrive here at the end of December. I will give the exact specifics when I receive all the items. I hope you will all want to come in and support this great cause. 100% of the price of the beaded items goes directly back to the Bead for Life organization. (This is not a money-generating event for the store.) One of the items that I know they sell is packages of loose beads. We're talking art supplies!!!
Now, here is a photo of the give-away in the random drawing this week for anyone who enters a comment in response to my question. It is a set of stamps and 2 chipboard sets from Maya Road, one of my favorite companies.
Here is the question: In your fantasy (don't worry, not going there..)what is your profession, and what are you doing with it? Here is my answer...It will probably surprise no one that in the deepest recesses of my heart I would love to be a rock star, singing up on stage...some outrageous wild knee-slapping songs, with a few heart-wrenching tear jerkers thrown in for good measure...but I wouldn't do all that club-hopping..I would be the first rock-star rubber stamper-altered artist...and I wouldn't forget all you little folks who knew me "when"...but do not, I repeat, do not call me to borrow money or get me to sing at your kids PTO spring fair..seriously, I don't really have the time for that, between running the store and being a rock star...what were you thinking?? So, c'mon...there must be some wild fantasies out there...who wants to get up on stage with me and do a duet???

  1. Lifeguard on Miami Beach. I used to lifeguard at Salisbury Beach when I was younger and I LOVED it!...and boy do I miss those days of being paid to work out and get a tan and meet people and spend 8 hours on the beautiful beach all day.(And oh yeah, keep people safe and give first aid and make rescues and stuff like that.) But then I got older and had to get a "real job" i.e. one with health insurance and paid time off and that was year-round, not just June-July-August. And my second choice would be to teach art or journaling classes around the country or world...and be a working artist selling my stuff. Maybe that one will really happen some day!

  3. If I could do any job it would be something creative and food related. At one time my brother had a farm stand that I made all the jams and jellies for. I enjoyed it and loved creating new recipes cominations. If I were to do this I would use my stamps, inks and papers to create special labels for them all.

  4. Kate, I saw some very colorful beads in an TV ad for Ethan Allen Furniture store last year. I think it was just a flash-but you could tell they were extravagant beads. I Googled their site and finally had to call one of their main stores find out what significance the beads represented in their ads on TV That was my first introduction to - Beadsforlife - buy them by the bag and feed a family- beautiful colors - I could not resist! They use old magazines to make them-great recycling idea!

  7. I would be an actress. I know I know it sounds like such a "typical" fantasy profession but I would love to be on TV and in movies...mostly because I love to be the center of attention!!! lolol And I would use a huge chunk of the millions I would make to ensure that there are no more homeless dogs and that no dogs are put down simply to alleviate crowding.

  9. I can't wait to see the beads. I may have to get back into making jewelry!

I always wanted to be an archeologist, hence my desire to go and dig up my own "frozen Charlottes". If I won the lottery, I'd have a huge dog rescue farm somewhere in Vermont (with a staff to run it!) and a nice big craft room for guests.

  11. ok, dream job, own an inn in Rockport and be an innkeeper, cooking scones for my guests everyday........

or a book reviewer, I love to read, imagine being able to read and get paid for it?? of course, then you would have to write the review, but ok, I could do that.....or maybe a children's librarian, or maybe work for Apple computer......or have a scrapbook/stamp store and run crafty kinds of retreats......or teach fun stuff....

I guess there are a few things I would like to do....but wait, I am really doing one of my dream jobs, I am happy being an innkeeper making scones everyday for my guests, but to do it without financial stress, that would be golden!!!

  12. I have to stick with "Artist!" It's all that I ever fantasized about being. When I had NO IDEA that I could actually LEARN this stuff! I thought artists came out of the womb with paintbrushes in their hands. Ouch! Not a good visual!!!!
