I announce the winners of each week's prize on the newsletter, and I show the prize and ask the question here...just to keep you all awake!
So, I am just back from Creative escape in Arizona...yes, I know it is a dry heat, but , really??, so is my oven...I have tons of ideas for holiday and halloween and fall projects...just waiting for all the raw supplies to get here...but I will get started this week on a few of them...all will be revealed on Saturday, Sept. 12 at our "Gala" event, the Holiday Open House...we will have free make-&-take projects, while our supplies last, as well as a raffle for one of three great gift packages...one large, two a bit smaller...everyone who comes into the store may enter, and extra entries are available for each $20 purchase...sometimes at these events we all get so excited that we give away something we weren't planning on...well, yes, that happens...anyway, come in your holiday garb if you like...unless it is 100 degrees out (oh, wait, that's Arizona)...we will crank up the AC to get us in the mood...if we can find them , we may even have the holiday songs on...the theory being that it is never too soon to get started on holiday cards and gifts...remember last year, on Christmas eve, you were up til 2 am finishing that project??? Not this year!! that's what we're here for...to get you in the mood and energized for the coming season, and to get you prepared to do it all, just like the tortoise...slow & steady,...with a few squeals of delight as you see all the NEW stuff!!! Do remember to join us here on Saturday, Sept. 12, 10 am sharp!!
So, here is the ""Question of the Week."
What is your personal style?? By this I mean, what do you gravitate toward naturally when you think about making a card, scrapbook page, altered book, artist playing card, wall hanging...any special colors or materials??
I will tell you all a secret about my personal scrapbooking...please don't let my family know about this (I think I may have mentioned this to a few people so far...) I have scrapbooks filled with great papers and embellishments, and i never contaminate them with family photos , or vacation photos, etc...nope, I want to be able to open my books and look at the papers and embellishments, and really reminisce..."oh, remember when we got this paper??" or "this embellishment is soooo cool, and I bought the last four that the store had"...seriously great memories!!...and, yes, I will admit, at moments, there are a few tears...but, really, that's what scrapbooking is all about, isn't it?? Leave me a message, answering my questions, and you will be entered to win, by using the random.org number generator, the prize pictured at the top of this entry...it is a set of papers and quotes from QuickQuotes, as well as one of the newest Maya Road mini clear keychains...can you see it in the photo?...it is the owl set. Winner will be announced in next week's newsletter. Talk to me!!!
What? Am I the first? My personal style is clean lines, straight on. I have such a hard time with askew. I tend to stick with greens on both layouts and cards. I love ribbons and brads.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, papers. I like to match up my prints and colors.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I pick out when scrapping or card making has to be the paper colors. Of course I also love brads, eyelets, buttons, chipboard, ribbons, so on and so on.
I had to laugh at your description of scrapbooking. This summer, from June 21 to August 21 I filled a large sketchbook chronicling my summer adventures, with only a very few photographs. My style is quite eclectic--I just look around at what I have at hand and use it and anything else I can find that goes with it based on color or theme. One of my favorite pages was created during an evening auction by tearing up an auction flyer and a newspaper for auction-goers, writing my bidding number in black ink, and listing my purchases with detailed descriptions in the blank spaces around my collage pieces. (I almost always have a glue stick, pens in a variety of colors, and scissors in my bag.) Sometimes I sketch in the sketchbook, but more often I use torn papers or parts of old greeting cards or other images to create a background and add stickers and a variety of embellishments to work up a theme. I admit that my books get bulky and don't really close, but that's okay too. I love the whole process of creating something from an odd assortment of objects and the messiness of it all. ReplyDeleteI would say that my style is eclectic--sometimes I like clean and simple, other times I like a layered look on my cards and pages. Oh, and Kate, there are no scrapbooking police--make your pages the way that makes you happy!
ReplyDeleteOh Kate!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the Creative Escape was amazing, and you came back with tons of inspiration!!
I love vintage style. (Crafty Secrets is a fave of mine!) I'm a cardmaker and an "alterer" much more than a scrapbooker, so I'm not limited by trying to fit photos to my projects.
Do you know if Claudia will be teaching the Christmas Mirror Class again this fall?
Thanks for sharing all you do!
My personal style is simple with bright colors and a touch of bling. I recently returned returned from Art Unraveled in Phoenix and we here in New England do not know heat!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could get up to AE more often!
My personal style is...a little of everything. I do it all: scrapbooking, altering, minibooks, collage, cards, etc., and very rarely does my stuff look the same. I love love love paint and ink, so that is probably the one common theme in whatever I make...there will always be paint and/or ink! When I am using photos I always use extra copies so I don't worry myself with "the rules"...I just play!
ReplyDeleteI like scrapbooking and I have just started to get into card making. I love the copics, and plenty of papers - especially anything that is blue. I will never be able to use all of the blue papers I have, but they are fun to just look at too.
ReplyDeletemy style is vintagey-messy-fun. is that a style? well then i just made it up! the messier and paintier the better! which is one of the reasons why i like AE everything soooo much...you get my creative mind cooking every time i go there!

personal style....I always start with patterned paper and work from there. I tend to be a bright-colred, clean design gal, but have days where I will add ephemera, keys, dye, etc. I'll try just about any technique once :-)
ReplyDeletewhat comes to mind for me oh what cuttle bug can I use for my card background then its ooooh on to the share it tear it sand it corecolor papers love to see the colors come ,through ,im a big fan of all the swiss dot ribbons sheer ones mostly. my other favorites are brads love brads.....gotta have glue dots foam dots too.

Do I have a style, you ask. Not really, I think of myself as all over the map when it comes to style. One day it is bright colors and flowers, the next it could vintage tones with a rusty embellishment. I am primarily a stamper with occasional visions of grandeur. I like to make wall hangings, mini books and cards.
ReplyDeleteI tend to create mini altered scrapbooks. I try and stick to one line of supplies, since I try and buy all the paper, stickers and embellishments that go with it. I will add a few other items but mainly keep to one manufacturer. When I'm done it just seems to be complete when I use this method.
ReplyDeletei think that i'm going to adopt YOUR style kate!!! i just love all the papers and stuff that i buy for scrapping, but haven't made any pages because i don't have the pictures printed out yet! now i know i don't need them!!!! seriously, i am an ecelectic / grundge / shabby scrapper / creator (how's that for a description?!?!?) i tend to do more mini books / projects (i've been "scrapping for about 14 years and only have 3 albums!!!!)

My personal style is paint, ink, texture. Lots of healthy artistic expression mixed with substantive content.
ReplyDeleteI have too many styles to count. I love monochromatic looks. I often use a variety of patterns more than solids. I'm getting very into stamping with watercolor pencils/crayons on cards lately. Basically, I love trying lots of things and seeing what I love the most.
ReplyDeleteI've tried to sign up for the newsletter a few times over the last few weeks but am still not receiving them.
My personal style: I don't think I have one yet but mostly simple and colorful.
ReplyDeleteMy style: I think blingy best describes it! LOL! Do you think that is a style!? Of course, can't live without a little vintage! Teri
ReplyDeleteMy style crosses a multitude of ranges...but I love card making...especially for very special occasions. They can be humorous to elegant,(sometimes combined) and everything in between. However, ALL are clearly accentuated by color, color and more COLOR AND flowers and BLING! Love a little, to a lot, of sparkle to catch one's eye. Color is in the paper and every possible color venue possible - copics, prisma pencils, watercolor, Twinkling H2Os, inks, glitter, and any other source that I missed. I'm still a kid at heart who loves to color!
ReplyDeleteOh Kate! Just read that I won! thank you! :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had a great time at CE...can't wait to see all the projects and glad to hear that Lynnette is coming to teach! :)
I'll be in soon! hehe
can't wait! thanks again!

Ha - laughed about the "pristine" scrapbook - reminds me of someone who said their hobby was collecting paper, rubber stamps and all the assorted doo-dads. I can so relate.
ReplyDeleteMy style - vintage-y, grungy, earth tones with an occasional foray into other styles, but always come back to the shabby-chic vintage.
