Thinking Winter

Here is the free gift for the randomly-chosen winner among those who leave any type of comment after reading this blog. Just click on the "comment" word below and throw in your two cents. Winner will be announced in next week's newsletter. The prize is a pad of 12 x 12 papers from the brand new release from We R Memory Keepers, along with 2 page kits and a card kit.

This week we will be chatting about winter and our attitudes..after all that is all we have control over, right?? I happen to love the cold (hate to be too hot) but am not crazy about snow...unless it is overwhelming and we are all forced to stay home..I see bad weather as a great reason for spending the day in the art room...not that we need any excuses. But we are, after all, New Englanders, and we are used to all this, and even should expect it, right?? It doesn't help that I have lost my winter boots at the moment and am still wearing my sandals...There are great art tools to use with snow scenes now...the white pen from Ranger, the Souffle pens, white glaze pens, white liquid applique, polar white Flower Soft, white chunky glitters , white flocking,...and then there is the whole silver snow look...anyone got any great winter "art" ideas to add...love to hear from you.

Here is a card we did in a class over the weekend with the Tim Holtz "movie set" that has the popcorn in it...of course, we sold out of the set, so I have more on order from Stampers Anonymous...just imagine that you want to give some movie gift cards to someone...is there a cuter way to do this??...rhetorical question...no answer needed!!

  1. I hate winter , we had a tree fall on our house thursday night with that windstorm.Snow is pretty but I don't love to shovel. On another note , the popcorn card is so cute and the prize looks really nice.Happy Monday

  2. Winter -- If you're listening, I am so DONE with you! It is OVER!
I did enjoy having a good excuse to stay inside and work on art during this past rainy stormy week...my son brings out what little joy I have left for winter. He is 2 and of course is in love with making snowmen and angels and being pulled around on his sled and catching snowflakes with his tongue. --As for winter-related art, I usually enjoy evoking a cold quiet frosty feeling --best achieved by using lots of GLITTER. I also like using evergreens, snowflakes, deer, and winter berries as image themes.
But ANYWAY...Winter and I have broken up and I have moved on. The journal page I worked on this weekend featured flowers (crocuses and peonies) and eggs...I am courting SPRING!!

  3. This morning(Tuesday) gave me the feel that spring might actually come about! Love a warm house on a snowy day, when I don't have to do a thing... but craft, and bake! Re cards, big snowflake blue embossed on crisp white vellum, seems very wintery to me! Jenny in Beverly

  4. I love winter and I love it even more that our new house has a garage! I haven't cleaned my car off once this winter!!! The wind storm gave me a date night with hubby (dinner, movie and then wine by the fireplace!) Amazing what a romantic he turns into without internet and tv! I am ready for flowers and warmer weather! My creative brain wants to play with primas not snowflakes! Love your prize - would love it more if I win! Thanks for the chance to win!

  6. I've thought long and hard about the good points of winter. All I could come up with is coming home from work early, putting on my flannel pants and spending the afternoon in the scrapbooking room.
Shoveling, slippery roads, heavy coats, gloves, boots, hats...yeah, just not for me. It's all about the crafts and flannel pants with an occasional hot chocolate :)

  8. winter, I like it a lot more since we bought the inn, since I rarely HAVE to go out and risk life and limb to get to work......I do love the cold, not a really hot weather fan either, if it is cold, you can always add another later.....too hot, you can only take off so much before you start attracting attention, and not for a good reason!! LOL! I also love to go and walk on the beach in the winter, as you don't have to go crawling all over everyone......winter is also a great time for taking some great photographs.....

  9. I love snowflakes and I am still making them. Ornaments, cards, layouts....I love polar white Flower Soft and use it in as many winter projects as possible. We have not had much snow this year, so I may need to think of how to get a spring "mud" look for my projects ;)

  11. The popcorn card rocks! Winter...Easy art...
punching snowflakes out and dipping in glue and just sprinkling with all kinds of colored glitter! And remember those snowflakes we used to cut out of paper ? Too much fun!
    It is almost spring!

  12. Winter.....ummmm, Glad it is almost over...I like it for December, and then only if we have snow for Christmas...after all the whole Santa and sleigh thing, needs snow!!
Very glad today got to be 50+ degrees...I was out with my rake in the yard....so what if the neighbors were laughing as I raked around the snowbank on my front lawn!! LOL!!!

  13. As far as I am concerned, it should snow on December 24th and be gone on December 26th! And let's not talk about SOME of the weathermen out there predicting it! Nothing like shoveling a foot of "partly cloudy" off the driveway! My favorite "flavor" of snow at the moment is the Polar White Flower soft...seem to be using it a lot lately!

  16. I love the snow, but I am finally tired of it this winter! This has been the 3rd snowiest winter in history. I am originally a southeast TX. girl, so I love it...but I am ready for spring now ;o)

  17. I'm looking forward to spring! We don't have a lot of "weather" to speak of here in northern CA, but I love the spring and the flowers and the warmer weather. We actually had a bit of snow here a couple of days ago.
Glad to find your blog and I will bookmark it!

  18. Well I think right now I would welcome snow rather than the "pond" we have in our cellar! Do you sell oars at the store Kate? Maybe I could decorate them with Zentangles, oar, maybe with some stamped design.UGH!
Kate you need to change the hours listed on this blog to open on Monday...Yes, I can get goodies any day of the week now Hurray!!!!
